Psalm 150:
"Rediscovering Praise"
There is a shortage of praise for the Lord today, and not just among unbelievers. I'm as guilty as any in this. Sometimes I have held back because I felt pressured to praise in public. Or felt that praise was somehow becoming a payment for blessing received or an investment toward wishes that God might grant. This Ultimate Psalm is a strong reminder that God can be sincerely praised, without ulterior motive or empty show. Sincere praise is the great theme of the Psalms. Open your heart with mine right now, beloved. Let's try to join the Orchestra and Chorus of Creation:

Verse 1: " Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power."
His Sanctuary is His Heaven, I think. And the Firmament is the Cosmos. It's everything you can see on a clear night. A dear one recently asked me about the stars, space, and the possibility of life on the other planets. It got me to thinking about God's reasons for making all those other worlds. It occurred to me that they may have no other function than to point us to Our Father (see Romans 1:20-21 and Psalm 19). The next time I walked outside at night, I rejoiced in the stars. I'm glad that God has placed them up so high that I can't corrupt them, nor can any man rearrange or ruin them. Mankind may spoil much on this earth, and destroy much, but look up, behold the stars. They are beyond our influence, opinion, or power. They will not ever be moved by us. Praise the Lord!

Verse 2: " Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness."
We can't just define God by what He has created. There are also His mighty acts. The Love He has shown for us. Beloved, consider God, the Son, alone in the Garden of Gethsemane. Facing His Cross, and the prospect of paying for the sins of world. He prays to God the Father for deliverance, but vows to accept the Father's will. I get so carried away with getting my prayers answered today, for my sake. But that's not what He did. Behold the Lamb of God in the garden. His prayer for deliverance actually was answered, by the way. Read carefully Matthew 26:39, then 26:53...do you see it? Christ chose to suffer and answer my unuttered prayer for deliverance and a chance to really live. Re-read  Matthew 26:53. Why, He could be sitting around at a prayer meeting in Heaven today, totally justified, bragging about the Angel army that stole Him right out of the jaws of an unrighteous death. We can NEVER repay Him, none of us, for refusing His own deliverance. The Lord owns us, not just because He made us, but it's also what He has done for us! Praise the Lord!

Verses 3-5: " Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals."
This is turning into quite a performance. Can you hear it, beloved? This music is special. Not in a worldly way. I've discovered that man can only take music so far, the rest is always up to God. Praise the Lord!

Verse 6a: " Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord."
Now, I guess, you may be wandering if you have to take music lessons to praise God properly. Well, that's not the point at all, as we see here that everything and everyone are to praise the Lord. I've found that God cares little about the quality of the song that comes out of our mouths. He does listen carefully to the music of our souls. That is the way we praise Him best. Believe me, no amount of music study can harmonize a soul. But in a instant, Jesus can. He's the real "Maestro," the only real One!
Verse 6b: " Praise ye the Lord."
The Great Psalm about praise ends with a direct appeal to YOU. The choir needs you, beloved. The Lord loves you. He has made a way for you to harmonize with Him through His Son. You cannot really hear or appreciate this music until you open your heart and join in. You can't sit back and be the audience. God is the audience. Join in, beloved.  "Praise ye the Lord."
